20 + ways to start a self care routine

Practicing regular self care reminds us (and others!) that our needs are important too. We are so quick to spend our time and energy caring for for the people we love. But for some reason we hesitate when it comes to taking care of ourselves.

Setting aside time for self care sends the message that we value ourselves, which makes others value us more too. When we feel valued, we feel more connected to the people we love and we are less likely to feel resentment towards them.


(1) Get enough sleep

Sleep for at least 7h. You will be more productive when you are not tired. Make your sleep time a priority. Get comfortable bed, mattress & sheets. Make sure you have flowers in your room and it is always clean. Don’t keep laptop and paperwork in your bedroom. Get rid of TV. Make sure this is a place to sleep and be comfortable.

(2) Hydrate

(3) Eat clean

When you eat healthy you get more energy. Make sure you deliver all nutrients your body needs. Not only water and protein but all minerals, all vitamins, fiber, carbs, fat. It is necessary to be in good health.

If you are constantly angry or tired or feel fatigue, there is a big chance you either don’t get enough sleep, don’t get enough water or not deliver all necessary nutrients. So your body don’t get the fuel it requires to work properly.

(4) Exercise

It is that simple. I know people who want to loose weight would be buying supplements to make them loose appetite and buying CDs to train with the fitness guru. All it actually takes is to eat healthy, get enough sleep and exercise. Make it a priority.

Start your day on the gym, so you have the worst part of your day at the beginning, nothing can be worse after a tough workout.

If you don’t like gym, than play tennis, go on a bike, jetski or swim. Find something you like and do it.

(5) Meditate

You might think this is a waste of time, but it actually help you with focus. When you meditate you make your mind rest, not think about all the million things you need to do.

Try to concentrate and think what is the most important thing you need to do this day. It is probably one of the hardest that will come to your mind, but you have to do it.

Every day do something difficult, this way you will get the biggest progress. Here is a video about how to meditate and why, which made me try out meditation.

(6) Get a massage

I am honest, this is necessary. Every 6 months get a 10 x 1h full body sessions. This will help you tremendously with how your body feels and remove the toxins.

My masseur once explained to me how massage helps your body. Imagine a kettle where you boil water. All you put to the kettle is water, nothing else, clean water. After 6 months you will see a residue so you need to descale it.

Imagine your body, everything you eat, all the flavor enhancers and preservatives that are now being added to your food. We don’t eat just raw foods, but we fry and deliver lots of toxins to our bodies from the processed foods.

Drinking water and getting the required amount of fiber helps with removal of the toxins but massage is also necessary. We sit a lot, our posture is not always straight. Massage is a necessity if you want to be healthy.

It is also good to get a relaxation massage once a month with a scrub and aromatherapy, but always remember that every 6 months you should be getting a 10 sessions massage. 


(7) Relax

Go on weekend trips outside of your city. Every 3 months go on 9 day vacations – (Sat to Sun). This will help you recharge, help you get focused and help you clear your mind so you can find new ideas.

Sitting in the same place over and over can be depressing. Go on Pinterest look for inspirations where to go. Get a nice hotel or airbnb.

If you have a superpower and speak English (and if you are reading this post, you have this superpower:) you can stay in many places for free, where host would ask you to give some private english lessons to their kids. I saw ads like that even in Bora Bora.

(8) Get a facial

Once a month get a facial. Get a chemical peel and make sure your skin is in the best possible condition. It will make you feel and look better. My favorite is RF micro needling which makes your skin younger and helps with acne scars and wrinkles. Check out Groupon for ideas.

(9) Get a laser hair removal

If there is one thing I would recommend to everyone it is laser hair removal. That is the best gift you can give or get. It works magic and save you a lot of time. I’ve been going on a treatment for a year, with visits every 5-6 weeks. After that I didn’t go for a year. Now I am after second treatment and 3rd one will be the last one for probably the next year or so. I am currently treated with Candela machine and it is the best thing I could get myself. If your friends birthday are coming up, check with her if she wants it, she will be thankful for this gift!

(10) Get a mani-pedi

The better you look the better you feel. The better you feel the quality of life is better, so head here to check out all the amazing nail designs.

(11) Get a haircut

(12) Teeth cleaning and check up

Do it every 6 months to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. If your teeth are not sensitive do a whitening procedure as well.

(13) Get your eyelashes done

or if you are like me just get yourself fake ones. I use ARDELL Demi Whispies

(15) Invest in good skincare

Treat yourself good from the inside and from the outside.

(16) Get yourself a luxury gift

at least once a year. Whatever your budget allows you. If it is a new car, new jetski, new handbag, new pair of sunglasses, just make sure it is something that will make you proud that you got if for yourself.

If you feel like you cant afford a $1k handbag, than head to this post and check how easy it is get some extra cash. $1k is less than $3 a day saved for a year.

My money philosophy is to spend no more than:

50% on life (rent/mortgage, bills, necessities)

30% invest (best in your own business and your education)

10% save (money u never plan to touch- emergency money) and

10% to spoil yourself

You don’t have to do it on monthly basis. It is even better to do it on a yearly basis. Make sure you spend money on yourself as well. It can be holidays, can be car, clothes, lingerie, jewelry, cinema, spa, whatever you feel like spending it is yours, you deserve it. If you feel like you can’t do it, that means you should do something about it. Cause living paycheck to paycheck shouldn’t be your life sentence.

You can make a lot of money online in your spare time, even if all you can do is speak English.

You can even make money shopping online.

(17) Get out in the sun

(18) Laugh & smile

watch something funny, read something funny, meet with friends and have some fun as often as you can.

(19) Read & educate yourself

Set goals and achieve them. Be happy with your successes.

(20) Love

Love your other half, your family, your friends, your pets, make sure there is someone in your life that you love and make sure they know. Give them flowers, make them lough, surprise them. Cherish the moments and capture in beautiful photoshoots.
